Desert Safari with Quad Bike: What's Included, Prices & How It Works

By Sahara Dune Adventures · 3 November 2026 · 6 min read

Guest riding a quad bike across the red dunes on a desert safari in Dubai

A normal desert safari puts you in the passenger seat. A desert safari with quad bike hands you the handlebars: part of the trip is spent riding your own quad across the red dunes, and the rest is the full safari around it — dune bashing in a 4x4, a sunset stop, camel ride, sandboarding, and (on the evening trip) a BBQ dinner with live shows at camp.

This guide covers what the day actually includes, how the quad session works, what it costs, and the age and safety rules — so you know exactly what you are booking.

What a safari with quad biking includes

The quad ride is one part of a complete safari, not a standalone rental. Depending on the trip you choose, the day looks like this:

  • Free hotel pickup and drop-off in Dubai and Sharjah — you do not drive to the desert yourself.
  • Dune bashing in a 4x4 with an experienced driver over the red dunes.
  • Your quad bike session — a dedicated ride on the dunes (see how it works below).
  • A sunset photo stop on the evening safari.
  • Camel ride and sandboarding at the desert stop or camp.
  • Evening trip only: BBQ dinner and live shows at the desert camp.

There are two ways to fit the quad ride into your day:

How the quad session works

You ride your own quad — one rider per bike — on the open dunes, as part of the safari group, with an instructor alongside you the entire time. Every ride starts with a safety briefing, and helmets and safety gear are provided. No riding experience is needed — the guides will have you riding confidently within minutes, and first-time riders are the norm rather than the exception.

The standard bikes are 250cc–450cc quads — proper desert machines, which is why the age rule below exists. You ride on sand the whole time, guided by the instructors rather than wandering off alone.

What to wear for the ride: closed-toe shoes are a must for quad biking, and long trousers protect your legs from sand burns. Keep loose scarves and drawstrings tucked away near the handlebars. Our what to wear on a desert safari guide has the full list.

Prices

  • Quad safaris from AED 199 per person — the morning safari with quad bike and the evening safari with quad biking both start at this price.
  • For comparison, the standard evening safari without quads is AED 89 per person, and the morning safari without quads is AED 110.
  • Child prices on safari packages: ages 0–3 go free, 4–5 pay 50%, 6–8 pay 70%, and from age 9 the adult price applies.

Every package and what it includes is listed in our 2026 desert safari price guide.

Age rules — read this before you book

  • Standard quad bikes (250cc–450cc): minimum age 12. This applies to every rider, on both the morning and evening trips.
  • Kids quad bikes: children aged 4–5 can ride our smaller kids quad bikes — included in safari packages at no extra cost. Kids quads are quads only; they are not available on dune buggies.
  • Safari minimum age is 3 — children too young for the quads can still join the safari itself as passengers in the 4x4 and at camp.
  • Not sure the quad is right for your child? Our desert safari with kids guide goes through every age band.

Safety

  • Riders must be 12 or over on the standard quads — no exceptions, because the 250cc–450cc bikes are full-size machines.
  • Closed-toe shoes are compulsory for riding; no sandals or flip-flops on the bikes.
  • Every ride starts with a safety briefing — listen to it even if you have ridden before, because sand riding is different from road riding. Helmets and safety gear are provided and must be worn.
  • You ride with the group, with instructors alongside you the entire time — not off on your own across the desert.
  • Young children ride the separate, smaller kids quad bikes, sized for ages 4–5, rather than the adult machines.

Quad bike or dune buggy?

If you are torn between the two, the short version: a quad is a solo ride you steer with handlebars, sitting out in the open; a buggy is a faster, roll-caged vehicle you drive like a car, solo or with passengers. Our full quad bike vs dune buggy comparison breaks down prices, ages and feel — and the dune buggy safari page has the buggy options (shared self-drive from AED 499, drivers 14+ with valid ID; private tours from AED 690, drivers 16+).
