November in Dubai: Fitness Challenge, Design Week, Diwali — and One Perfect Desert Day

By Sahara Dune Adventures · · 5 min read

Desert safari at sunset in Dubai in November, with a 4x4 on the red dunes

November is when Dubai shows off. The heat drops, the calendar fills up, and the city runs three of its biggest events almost back to back: the Dubai Fitness Challenge (31 October – 29 November 2026), Dubai Design Week (3–8 November 2026) and Diwali (main day Sunday 8 November 2026, with celebrations running 6–10 November).

If you are in town for any of them, you will likely have one free morning or evening. Here is how to spend it in the desert — and how each option fits around the events, with exact pickup times so you can plan properly.

Why November is the best month for a desert safari

November brings some of the most comfortable desert weather of the year: warm days, cool evenings, and soft light early and late in the day. Morning rides are crisp, and the evening camp — BBQ dinner under the lights — sits at exactly the right temperature. It is also peak season, so the popular evening slots go first; booking a few days ahead is sensible, especially around the Diwali weekend. Our month-by-month best time for a desert safari in Dubai guide has the full picture.

If you are here for Dubai Fitness Challenge (31 Oct – 29 Nov)

The whole city is doing 30 minutes of activity a day — so make one of your 30×30 days a desert one.

  • Morning Safari + Quad Bike (from AED 199): pickup 5:30–6:00 AM, 35+ minutes riding your own quad bike across the red dunes, plus dune bashing, a camel ride, sandboarding and an Arabic breakfast. You are back at your hotel by about 10:30 AM — your workout done before the Fitness Villages even open.
  • Race-day pairing: Dubai Ride is on 1 November and Dubai Run on 22 November, both early starts on Sheikh Zayed Road. Celebrate that evening with an Evening Desert Safari (AED 89): pickup 2:30–3:00 PM, dune bashing, sunset over the dunes, BBQ dinner and live shows, drop-off 9:30–10:00 PM.
  • Dune buggies are the step up: shared self-drive sessions from AED 499 (drivers 14+ with valid ID), or private buggies from AED 690 per vehicle (drivers 16+, passengers from age 3).

If you are here for Dubai Design Week (3–8 Nov)

Design Week fills Dubai Design District (d3) from morning to 10 PM, so your desert window is early or on a day off from the fair.

  • Morning Desert Safari (AED 110): pickup 5:30–6:00 AM, back by 10:00–10:30 AM — sunrise on the red dunes, then straight to d3 for the day. The light at dawn is the best photography of the whole trip.
  • A free evening instead? The Evening Safari (AED 89) runs 2:30–3:00 PM to 9:30–10:00 PM with dinner and shows — an easy swap for one festival night.
  • Coming with clients or a small team? A Private Desert Safari (from AED 299) gives you your own vehicle and guide with flexible timing.

If you are here for Diwali (6–10 Nov, main day 8 Nov)

Diwali weekend is family time, and the desert works beautifully around it — celebrations are in the evening, so take the family out early, or make the safari itself the celebration.

  • Morning safari keeps the evening free for Diwali itself: children from age 3 can join, and kids aged 4–5 can ride our kids quad bikes — included in the safari package at no extra cost. Standard quads are for riders aged 12+. Our desert safari with kids guide covers ages and safety in detail.
  • Private safari (from AED 299) suits a family group best: your own 4x4, your own pace, and no waiting on other guests.
  • Diwali weekend is one of the busiest of the season in Dubai — book your safari a few days ahead rather than on the day.

A simple 3-day November plan

  • Day 1: Morning safari + quad bike (back ~10:30 AM), afternoon at Design Week or a Fitness Village.
  • Day 2: Event day — Dubai Run, a Design Week workshop, or Diwali with family.
  • Day 3: Evening safari to finish: sunset, BBQ dinner and shows, back by 9:30–10:00 PM.

Good to know before you book

  • Pickup is free from hotels across Dubai and Sharjah on safari packages, and drop-off is included.
  • Free cancellation up to 24 hours before your tour.
  • What to wear: closed-toe shoes are a must for quad biking; bring a light layer for November evenings at camp.
  • Prices: every package and what it includes is in our 2026 desert safari price guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I do a desert safari and Dubai Run on the same day?

Yes. Dubai Run (22 November) is an early-morning event. Take the evening safari the same day — pickup is 2:30–3:00 PM — or the morning safari the day before or after.

Which safari fits around Design Week at d3?

The morning safari: pickup 5:30–6:00 AM and back at your hotel by 10:00–10:30 AM, in time for the festival's 10 AM opening.

Is November a good month for a desert safari?

It is one of the best — cooler mornings and evenings, comfortable camp weather, and peak-season atmosphere. It is also busy, so book ahead.

Can children join during Diwali weekend?

Yes. Children from age 3 can join the safari, and kids aged 4–5 can ride kids quad bikes, included in the package. Standard quads are for riders 12+, and private buggy passengers can be as young as 3 (drivers 16+ with ID).
